Health Testing

Here at Silver Bullet Labradors, health testing is important to us. Why is it important to us and why should it be important to you?

There are 15 main genetic diseases that can affect labradors.
Centronuclear Myopathy
Cystinuria (Labrador Retriever Type)
Degenerative Myelopathy
Elliptocytosis
Exercise-Induced Collapse
Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis
Hyperuricosuria
Myotubular Myopathy 1
Narcolepsy (Labrador Retriever Type)
Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Cone-Rod Dystrophy
Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Golden Retriever
Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Progressive Rod-Cone Degeneration
Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (Labrador Retriever Type)
Retinal Dysplasia/Oculoskeletal Dysplasia 1
Skeletal Dysplasia 2

Our dogs are tested through Embark Vet. If you get one of our puppies, we promise that your pup will never be AFFECTED by any one of these diseases.

There are a lot of different places that test dogs and some of these places only test for certain diseases, and not all 15 main ones. No matter if you ever get a pup from us or anyone else, make sure you are asking if your new family member parents have been tested or not. And make sure they are tested for all 15 diseases.

Some parents also have their OFA's completed - please feel free to ask us!

Please keep in mind, as we do our best to provide the healthiest of pups, factors such as excessive growth rate, environmental, playing with other dogs, types of exercise, improper weight, not being fully vaccinated and unbalanced nutrition may cause health issues with your pet. Also, being a carrier of any of these diseases will not effect your puppy, unless you breed to another dog that is a carrier of the same.

If you ever have any health questions or concerns with your new puppy - please feel free to reach out. We would love to help in anyway we can!

Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions!
